The world is getting older. Countries with the fastest-growing elderly populations are most at risk from this demographic change. As the UN Department for Economic and Social Affairs puts it, “Population ageing is a defining global trend of our time.”
The key challenge facing countries set to experience an increase in their old-age population is to make sure that their economies and societies are able to support the needs of an increasingly elderly populace. Health systems, education, access to work and care will need to be revolutionised for countries to cope with an increasingly old population.
